Whether you’re applying to a Fortune 500 or a Hot Startup - exhibiting these qualities will help you land your DREAM JOB. Examples from sports and business are shared. Prioritizing health by killing Globesity will help you become a Champion in life. JustHuynh (pronounced “Just Win” is leading the social fitness movement for people to just win by training together at achieving their fitness goals). Bamboo Ceiling There are times in life when you feel that you’re stuck in the rat race “checking the box” as you climb the corporate ladder. Life is more than just a paycheck. When negativity creeps in, always remember the haters and doubters that you’ve proved wrong and will continue to. For me, I’ve been discriminated against for being Asian, short, poor, dumb, fat, shy, and unfit. This drives me to pursue mission of improving global health thru social fitness as fitness is the key for people to live life purposefully. Everyone has a calling in life - find it and go after it. The best employees work with a chip on their shoulder as they were counted out or underestimated. You should be fired up to prove that you are a star. People are most dangerous when they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Reddit co-founder Alex Ohanian has a “wall of doubters” that he uses as motivation to make them regret disrespecting him. Alex crumbles up the haters and tosses them into the trash so he can focus on the things that matter. Commitment You must honor your commitments. In fitness many of us set fitness goals. At JustHuynh, we encourage everyone to participate in a Charity Commitment Contract where they donate a predetermined amount to their most hated charity each month they fail at their fitness goals. You can also stay committed with social accountability. Entrepreneur and Investor Jason Calacanis leveraged his social platform by pioneering a “fatbloggers” movement so that people blog daily to hold themselves accountable in losing weight. Community Service Active involvement in your local community allows you to pay it forward to the young and help the need. The ability to serve people outside the confines of an office provide hands on experience with the real world that will enhance your personal brand and communal impact. You can give back at local grade schools (K-12) so they’ll share your positive impact with their parents that serves as the source of a potential movement started by acts of kindness at the local level. Competitive Business is a contact sport where you must be wired to be #1 and prove to customers and potential customers that you are the #1 solution for their problems and needs. In competition, strive to be a contender instead of a pretender for #1. Most people never win because they’re afraid of losing. If you are healthy, you can win with fitness and defeat competitors with your smarts. Council of Winners Even the best in their profession have mentors as it is hard to detect all areas for improvement when your mind is flipped on “game-time” 24/7. Mentors either real or imaginative provide the honest perspective on how you can reach another level of greatness. Napoleon Hill has taught millions of people about his imaginary council technique where he can tap into the wisdom of the most successful people he admires to guide him. You become your THOUGHTS so condition your MIND to HUYNH. Cultural Fit You can be the smartest guy in the room and/or a former D1 college athlete star, but fail to get along with the team. In such case, you have zero shot of succeeding with that team. To fit culturally, you must be passionate about the team’s problem they’re trying to solve, passionate about making a difference in the world, and passionate about putting in the work to achieve the company’s mission. Execution over egos. In many instances, people will reach out for collaboration opportunities to create income, influence, and impact. If you’re getting that “phone call” from someone for an opportunity, it is your decision to join the journey or miss out. Customer Obsession Everyone has the same 24 hours a day. You must provide a service/product that plays an important part of the customer’s daily social lives. You must own that moment where you provide the customer the utmost value. The most innovative companies don’t even view the players in their industry as competition because it is an open field for a customer’s time. At JustHuynh, customers need to exercise only 3 hours a week to meet the World Health Organization healthy guidelines - that is 3 hours of binge watching that people can cut back on. Execute A lot of people talk a big game, but don’t back it up thru action. Tune out the distractions, know your role, and violently execute your plan to perfection. Meritocracy gets rid of office politics with a no assholes culture. When evaluating talent, candidates must show that they want the opportunity and are willing to thrive better than anyone else as organizations have no time to waste training incompetent uncommitted candidates. Similar to NFL teams evaluating potential draft picks thru their collegiate performance and NFL combine workouts, companies rigorously evaluate a candidate’s previous experience and interview performance in predicting future success. Per Jack Welch, “the best workplaces are built on clear expectations and candid feedback, no one should be surprised if they find themselves fired.” Fearless Life is short as you could die any second via freak accident, mother nature, psychos, or self-infliction so live life doing what you love. You may be the perceived underdog in the eyes of your competition. In such instance, surprise the competition with a violently executed plan that leaves the competition reeling, customers extremely satisfied, and teammates craving to work with you. Game Changer You must be able to disrupt the status quo with innovative cutting-edge actions. In a world where automation and artificial intelligence are replacing human labor, you must use your physical and psychological gifts far superior than potential technological replacements. Global Mindset Be well read and travelled. Lifelong learning is critical to keep up with a rapidly changing business landscape. Travelling around the world exposes you to different ways people approach fitness, life, and business that will benefit your performance at work. Go-Giver Too many people focus on “taking” from others hence the term “go-getter.” To succeed you must serve people by giving a service/product that solves their immense pain viewed as a priceless pain-killer solution. View customers as a relationship not just a transaction. Growth Mindset There is an art and science to success so people must possess change agility in overcoming obstacles by being proactive instead of reactive. Eliminate a fixed mindset of operating a standard way. You can’t teach an “old dog” new tricks unless person is used to changing. At age 52 when many people are gearing for retirement, Ray Kroc embraced a growth mindset to bolster McDonald’s empire. Carole Carson at age 60 wrote about her personal obesity struggle in “From Fat to Fit” where she realized that life is meant to be enjoyed instead of living thru misery and pain. She inspired 1,000 people in her community to embrace a growth mindset to be healthy. Health 90% of the World is projected to be obese by 2030. In America, 85% of the population do not have gym memberships. Dating back to the start of civilization, it’s been proven that a fit body leads to a fit mind that helps you thrive in life personally, academically, and professionally. Successful people prioritize their health and so should you. Diehard fans get excited screaming at their rival teams at the collegiate and pro level and should channel that same passion in improving their own health with a ticket of admission to their “own game” from standing on the sidelines to getting on the field to improve their fitness. Plato has the best health philosophy “In order for man to SUCCEED in life, God provided him with two means, EDUCATION and PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. One for the soul and the other for the body. With these two means, man can attain PERFECTION.” Hero Mindset There are value creators and value destroyers. In health, the sickness industry players feast on the obese until they die. To succeed in the wellness industry or your industry, you must have a killer mindset to extinguish value destroyers of your customers. A true hero knows how to win humbly and lose gracefully knowing that another opportunity will come to win. Huynh-Huynh Situation The best relationships happen when both sides benefit for a win-win situation. In sports, teams have a database of prospects to evaluate character and ability. When hiring in business, companies strive to provide candidates a winning environment where their talents can be realized as opposed to a candidate being unable to thrive. Leadership Be able to listen, drive consensus, and influence people to relentlessly execute a well thought out plan. Just like the passion leaders of protests, elections, sports cheering, trolling, etc begin, you should channel that same passion in leading followers for your cause. By leading a superteam of closers, you’ll be able to strike fear and earn respect from the competition since you’re delivering exceptional results. Managing a team is similar to parenting where you need to give your business or children the freedom to execute the daily tasks when they’re capable. It takes awhile to build trust, but the potential is limitless when everyone performs their role. Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook says that “leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence.” Love Napolean Hill mentioned that achievement building genius is obtained thru the eternal triangle of love, sex, and romance for the magnetism benefits in how you carry yourself (i.e. handshake, voice, posture, thought, appearance). Which is why the hitched have an edge over dating swipers. Two Millennial tech titans have mastered Life and Love: Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook (4 years older than me) and Evan Speigel (2 years younger than me) of Snapchat. Mark has heart in marrying a wonderful wife Priscilla who together will give 99% of their wealth to charity while providing an amazing experience to its 2 billion global users. Evan shows heart in marrying supermodel Miranda Kerr who plays a huge part for Evan to drive Snap’s vision forward in an age where everyone is glued to their phones. The effects of heartbreak were experienced in 2017 when Amber Heard broke up with Elon Musk where Elon admitted on social media that he was unable to focus on Tesla and SpaceX. Loyalty By demonstrating unwavering commitment to the company’s mission with superior professional performance and community impact, leadership will recognize your contributions with career progression. Many of today’s leaders began their careers at entry level positions and made their way up. With only 24 hours in a day, founders are grateful for those who genuinely mean well and have a special place for those with value destroying intentions. In this social media era, those who engage in disrespectful or disloyal conduct will be publicly shamed (i.e. Theranos, Uber, United Airlines, Volkswagen, Wells Fargo. Magnetic Personality You must be someone that people want to be surrounded by as you bring optimism, passion, and energy. Your mere presence should elevate the level of performance for everyone around you. You should be someone that teammates are comfortable hanging out with at the airport or over a meal. Manage Up America is a nation of DOERS where visionary leaders such as Bezos, Zuckerberg, etc. turn improbable ideas into strong businesses. Strong companies can employ up to millions of people. In a company, the visionary leaders are focused on driving the company forward with a strong management team and don’t have time chasing down direct reports for status updates. To succeed, you must proactively manage up with your managers about progress and next steps. Mission-Driven You should wake up everyday happy to go to work in passionately pursuing the company’s mission. At JustHuynh our mission is to improve global health in helping people avoid being the projected 90% obese in year 2030. In sports, athletes play with pride for the family name on the back of their jersey, team name on the front, and the raving customers/fans who support them. North Star Everyone has a purpose in life. For many, it’s to have raised a beautiful family and left an amazing legacy for people to benefit from when your time on Earth is over. Always remember why you are alive. Live purposefully to carve a legacy that people will be proud of. A lot of people are stuck in dead end jobs but don’t have the will to pursue their passions to provide for their family - waking up and going to bed miserable everyday. Reminding yourself every morning that “any second could be your last” should motivate you to pursue your passion NOW as it’s game over when your time on Earth is over. Persistent When you are behind the competition in a given period of time, you must be able to lead a comeback and blow past the competition. Never give up. A great story is Colonel Sanders who received 1099 straight NOs for chicken buyers at an age when people are in retirement. If you believe in your talents - relentlessly pursue it. Just like with fitness, there is no overnight success as transformation is a journey where you must prepare yourself for the worst possible situation so that you can be scrappy to overcome those obstacles. Once you’ve conditioned your mind with a passion toward a life goal, you become relentlessly unstoppable as you can tap into your reserves of mental and physical energy to drive you toward what you want. Personal Brand In a social media day and age, everyone should have their own personal website and contribute positively on social media. A one page-piece of paper (i.e. resume) won’t cut it anymore as employers look for candidates making a positive difference with the 7 billion person planet that we live in. Amazing stories of students or those looking for “greener pasture” candidates landing jobs interacting with people in hiring positions on social media by demonstrating their potential value to organizations. Personal Brand Value Not all of us are athletically blessed to cash in on ability to put balls thru a hole such as Serena Williams, Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, etc. or possess the Hollywood body to draw huge crowds like Taylor Swift, Dwayne Johnson, Jennifer Lawrence, Bruno Mars, etc. As such, we rely on our intelligence and impact to make a living. Many employers try to pit you against other applicants but don’t be afraid of selling yourself (skills and value to company) because no one can do so better than you. Qi Mastery Qi is the vital life force that flows through the body. By mastering the mind and body connection, you can reduce stress, change thought, improve health that helps you thrive in life. Health is wealth where you’ll spend less on healthcare costs and experience increased career productivity. Leaders walk the talk such as Michelle Obama with the “Let’s Move Campaign” to decrease childhood obesity and Jeff Bezos prioritizing his health since 1998 to becoming the most successful entrepreneur in the world at $100 billion net worth - disrupting industries beyond bookstores at an unseen pace. Having personally helped many people master their mind and body, you can follow my 444to200 workouts as well. Risk Taker There are too many chicken littles in life and not enough bold calculated risk takers. Like in sports when the game is on the line and the ball is in your hands, you should confidently take the shot. If you win, celebrate. If you lose, celebrate that you took a courageous shot and believe that the shot will go in next time. Baseball players get paid millions to bat 300 meaning they strike out 70% of the time. At his prime, Alex Rodriguez made $29 million a year - 480 plate appearances a year is $60,000 each time he stepped to the plate. As a professional, you have to keep grinding until you get on base or even better by blasting a walk-off grand slam. For hockey fans, legend Wayne Gretzky says that “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Star You are a high performer who exceeds expectations utilizing you physical and mental talents. Just like in sports, stars play and the washed up get cut. You must embrace being an MVP (most valuable player) vs an all-talk POS (Piece of S**T). Winners never quit and quitters never win - be a winner. Keep your eye on the prize with a franchise player closer mentality to finish off the competition’s attempts at thwarting your efforts. If you are stuck in a losing environment that hinders your potential, act as if you're where you want to be and don't hang with sad sacks who whine. This allows you to create the life and environment you desire. Teamwork Teamwork makes the dream work. The collective talents of individuals is greater than individuals functioning as lone rangers. A company’s talent must unite to serve customers better than anyone else. Rome was not built overnight - same with visionary companies fueled with amazing talent. The best teams in the world can “punch above their weight class.” The New England Patriots have a motto “Do Your Job” where everyone needs to execute their assignments with perfection so that the team can dominate all phases of the game in offense, defense, and special teams against the competition. People fortunate enough to form super teams enjoy the process. In sports, head coaches surround themselves with strong supporting staff and star players ensure they have a strong team of starting and role players. In business, CEO’s surround themselves with a strong executive leadership team who build a strong supporting staff for their business units. Time Management Time is our most precious resource so only spend time with those who are committed to excellence and creating value. Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots is notorious for cutting Pro Bowl talent if they waste the organization’s time by not adding value to the organization. Warrior Mentality There are many industry wars i.e. coffee, cola, ecommerce, gym, social network, time, etc. JustHuynh is on a mission to kill the sickness industry. Whatever your industry, you must be passionate in winning the war. In the competitive smartphone space, Steve Jobs’ everyday approach to winning the war is “remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.” Winning Mindset You must be driven to win, improve, and succeed from failure. If you’re not hustling or hacking your way to success you won’t win. 98% of people fail to win because they lack purpose, lack ambition to aim above mediocrity, and lack the ability to finish. At the beginning of his career, LeBron James realized that he could not win in a losing organizational culture so left his hometown team to form a Big 3 in Miami to chase 2 titles in a 4 year period that he called was equivalent to “college” for him. He then fleeted back home for a younger Big 3 to win a 3rd title. This goes to show that LeBron knows success can be achieved in teams that cultivate a culture of winning and excellence. The New England Patriots are a perfect example of a winning environment where players thrive with the team but tend to fail when they leave the system. Teams such as the New England Patriots are structured to make ordinary people great where players who have never tasted a championship are willing to take a paycut to join the Champion’s Club. P.S.
